Prepare for the administrative and clinical duties of a medical assistant in a medical office hospital environment. Administrative aspects cover scheduling, billing and collecting procedures, insurance form preparation and basic computer skills. Clinical components include training in taking vital signs, performing screenings, handling basic lab and outpatient surgical procedures, venipuncture, CPR and pain management and 4 additional computer classes will be held on a Tues/Thurs schedule.
This course runs from September through June at Gaylord Hospital. Class meets two nights a week, Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.
After completion of classroom instruction, students must complete 160 hours of clinical externship at a medical facility. A high school diploma, knowledge of Microsoft Windows and basic word processing skills, a pretest, and an interview are required for acceptance into this program. Enrollment is limited.
