This course prepares the students to care for the sick and elderly under the direction of a Registered Nurse (R.N.). It is an entry-level paraprofessional position in the health care field. Complete this program and become a state Certified Nurse Assistant, carrying out basic nursing functions. CPR training is included. At course end, students will take the state registry exam. Section I: Classroom instruction is held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. for 16 weeks at Lyman Hall High School. Scheduled clinical sessions from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. are at state licensed nursing homes. When Section I is filled, we will offer Section II. Section II: Classroom instruction is held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. for 16 weeks at Lyman Hall High School. Scheduled clinical session from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at ARCC in Plantsville. The fee for the state registry exam is included in tuition cost. However, tuition does not include physical exam, uniform and required textbook. A pretest and interview are required for acceptance into this program.
